Who rents a wheelchair
- After surgery or an injury: a broken ankle, foot surgery, a knee or hip replacement, when you can't put weight on a leg for a few weeks.
- Visiting New York or New Jersey with a parent who can't walk far. We deliver to your hotel and pick it up before you leave.
- Coming home from the hospital or rehab, until you're back on your feet.
- A one-off event with a lot of walking: a wedding, graduation, museum day or a cruise.
Which wheelchair fits you
- Lightweight transport chair: only 19 lbs, folds to 9" for a car trunk. Small rear wheels, so someone else pushes it. Holds up to 300 lbs. Best for trips, outings and doctor's visits.
- Standard wheelchair (Silver Sport 2): large rear wheels so you can push yourself. Push-to-lock brakes, padded armrests, swing-away footrests or elevating leg rests. Holds up to 250 lbs.
- Extra-wide wheelchair: a wider seat (**20", 22" or 24"**) and a heavy-duty steel frame for larger users.

Wheelchair rentals start at $50 for one week for a transport chair, and $65 for a standard wheelchair. Each extra week costs less than the first. There's also a one-time delivery fee of $50 to $100, depending on your zip code, which covers delivery and pickup.
What's the difference between a transport chair and a wheelchair?
A transport chair has small rear wheels and is pushed by a companion; it's lighter (19 lbs) and easier to fold into a car. A standard wheelchair has large rear wheels, so the person sitting in it can push themselves. If the user will be alone some of the time, choose a standard wheelchair.
Can you deliver a wheelchair to my hotel in New York City?
Yes. Give us the hotel name and your check-in date and we'll have the wheelchair there when you arrive. We pick it up from the hotel at the end of your rental.
How fast can you deliver?
Within 24 hours. Orders placed outside business hours are delivered the next business day.

How long can I rent a wheelchair?
From one week. You can book up to 8 weeks online, and if you need it longer, call us to extend.
Does Medicare or insurance pay for the rental?
Mediplus Home Health is private pay, so there's no doctor's order or approval wait. You pay the rental directly and we deliver within 24 hours.
